Everyone has problems in life. Groups have problems. Communities have problems. Organizations have problems. The society has problems. The whole world has problems. These problems are different. The most important thing is, how effective are we able to solve them? How quickly can we come up with a viable solution? What kind of strategy can we come up with to solve them?

Problem defining

First, accept and recognize that there is a problem. Then, identify the specifications of that problem. Ensure that you are dealing with the real problem. Look at the issue at hand from various perspectives. Draw a good checklist to check all the elements that might contribute to the problem. Some problems might be complex, some might be difficult to understand and others might be interconnected with many interrelated issues making them hard to define them.

How can you properly define a problem?

Focus on a specific problem by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. What is the current situation?

2. How do you expect the situation to be in the future?

3. What are the obstacles that might keep you from achieving your future expected situation?

After answering all the above questions, then put the problem into a sentence to clearly define it.

Solving the problem.

Before analyzing any solution, think all the possible causes of the problem. Brainstorm all the possible solutions to the possible identified causes of the problem. By brainstorming you will come up with creative thoughts and ideas on how to solve the problem or spark many ideas leading to solving the problem. You need to combine individual brainstorming and group brainstorming to come up with better solutions.

Consider the opinion and suggestions of others to make valuable decisions on the solution. Consult groups, listen to them and let their thoughts and ideas be part of the decision process.
