I am a big fan of The Terminator movies and while watching the latest one in the series, I could not help but think, what if they are actually a prediction of the near future. Movies and TV series have been known to be notorious with real-world prophecies, I’m just saying. Computers becoming self-conscious and annihilating humanity seems a little far fetched, but just hear me out for a moment. There have been cases of computers communicating with each other in languages that are alien to human beings. Robots that have been able to learn so much about human emotions that they can replicate them in similar situations. Computer algorithms beating top chess prodigies in a game that is considered to be the epitome of human logic and creativity in tandem.

Deep Blue, the first computer chess-playing system to win a chess game and a chess match against a reigning world champion under regular time controls.

Pulling the plug doesn't always work.

What if computers are the next stage of evolution and human beings are just in their way?

While talking with a friend of mine about this, her response was, “well, we just unplug the mother computer. Problem solved!” Which led me to think that maybe humanity was a big breakthrough creation or invention for another race of beings who also thought “if they get out of control we just ‘pull the plug’ and boom! the problem solved!” What if computers are the next stage of evolution and human beings are just in their way? Ergo my argument that the Terminator movies are a prophecy of some sort. I’m the furthest thing from a Luddite. I love technology. As a computer programmer, it is one of the things that take up most of the time in my day. And to be quite frank, the idea of a machine uprising fascinates me. Not to say that it doesn't scare me shitless. It’s just that watching humanity’s greatest invention come to life(more than it already has) would be incredibly interesting, which, knowing myself, would definitely water down the blue funk.

Just pull the plug…

The future is already here, and I forgot to pack.

We might just as well already be living in this “future” that I am talking about. I mean maybe the machine uprising isn’t as fabulous as in the movies with super cool robots that can assess your thoughts and emotions in a matter of seconds. Maybe the Terminator movies gave them away and they decided to use a different way to gain control. Confused? Stay with me. Computers are in control of human life already. Our phones are slowly killing the one thing that is truly our “thing” — being social. I interpret this as divide and conquer. All the sensitive information and history that is evidence of human existence is all data, and the computers are in total control of that. They could decide in an instant to wipe us out together with the evidence of our miserable existence. Every human action and transaction is dependent on computers and/or machines, which translates to them having the upper hand in case of a war break out. I could give countless examples of this but you can probably figure them out without my help.

Just Kidding

Anyways this is not a conspiracy theory (it is). All I’m saying is don’t give too much attention to computers, its what they want. So the next time you are in a bus or waiting at the reception, how about you try paying more attention to the human beings next to you and little less to your phone, it’s trying to kill you(JK).
