SMARTPHONES AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENTREPRENEURS.

People are using smartphones more than ever. Smartphones are evolving at a very high rate with increasing unique features; features that keep users more engaged. Some live their lives through social media (for example twitter accounts, Facebook pages, Whatsapp, WeChat, Viber, Slack etc.)

Smartphones have changed the way people communicate. People can browse internet, check emails, take photos and post on social media.

Check how long you stay with your phone busy on social media. Can we say thirty minutes a day ? No. Sometimes you are watching a TV program and your phone is always active on social media. In a meeting you are busy on social media. When travelling or staying idle, relaxing somewhere, waiting someone, whether in a class or a very important place your phone is always active on social media. This shows that an individual with a smartphone spends averagely more than two hours a day on social media.

During conferences, meetings, training, seminars, meetups or workshops, many shift their attention from the speakers to their smartphones and even during breaks, they rush to their phones to return phone calls, emailing or texting instead of talking and connecting.

Many people currently use smartphones in various ways which includes:

  • Booking transport and accommodations
  • Call or speak to clients/colleagues across the world
  • Order stocks, items or shopping online
  • Manage invoices and finances online
  • Send or receive organised emails
  • Interact with customers via social media.
  • Access files in a meeting and project them into a bigger screen and even share the phone screen.
  • Access company network and solve problems via smartphones.

Businesses/entrepreneurs

For businesses they check where you spend most of your time and target that with advertisements. This is a strategy that can be used to generate your business with metrics which can promote it. The strategy can grow your business’s social footprints at a higher rate and when linked well with sales and marketing systems it can provide you with engagement ability of your customers.

What do you need as a business

Catching on and put more efforts into reaching people while they are using their smartphones. Use search engine optimization, Websites, Social networks, or even mobile apps.

Create brand awareness, attract new customers and retain the existing customers through a well analysed online metrics.

1.Make use of mobile apps

Mobile applications are taking the world by storm. Majority of smart, forward-thinking entrepreneurs/businesses are taking advantages of the apps to improve their businesses.

Creating a mobile application improves your brand. Take for example Uber whenever someone thinks of transport he/she remembers the Uber app. Include features where you can be contacted day or night without necessarily going through your websites. Make an app that can easily integrated with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other Social media sites.

2. Create a responsive website

Create a great responsive website that works well on mobile phones. Use mobile friendly theme. WordPress theme is preferred for displaying well the content and menu. In most cases premium themes are compatible to all mobile platforms. If you don’t want to use a WordPress theme then use WPtouch mobile plugins which will make your site mobile compatible. Improve user experience, work on search engines optimization and maximize on conversion rates.

Remember that not all mobile devices are the same. Therefore customize ads so they can work well across a variety of screens. Make you ads relevant, keep it short and have a clear call to action in you ads or video. Focus on shorter keywords and phrases you think mobile users might search.

To improve business performance online consider the following:

  • Run adverts on a newspaper redirecting people to your website.
  • Your mobile optimized site should have a promo button on the home page which offers your first customers a discount.
  • On the top of you page, the phone number should clickable for people to contact you easily.
  • Use short links which are easily shareable on social media.
