If we are asked to make a list of all things that we do on a regular day, taking selfies is certainly to be featured on the top list for most of us. Thanks to social media, it is one thing that we are all almost obsessed with. Who can deny the fact that a good selfie boosts our endorphins and makes us feel great about ourselves? Each time we dress up or hang around with our friends, it is almost obligatory to take that selfie. With so much craze around, TuringNet had figured out a way to intelligently blend one of our mining tasks into the selfie or photo beautification technologies to get better pictures and capture ‘the prettier you.’

How does beauty apps benefit from AI?

The biggest difference between TuringNet’s AI beauty app and the traditional beauty camera app is that the former uses the AI technology that are fostered in a decentralized and self-governing ecosystem, and was refined by all. It can not only apply the latest AI algorithms to identify various scenes, make corresponding scene optimization, but also recognize and identify faces and apply different beauty effects to your face. The basis of the beauty algorithm is the face recognition technology. The facial area and facial expressions in each picture vary. They need to have different algorithms to come up with the best optimization for each different area. We use facial recognition AI technology to identify faces, and label different areas of the faces, and then calculate to output better and enhanced images. The traditional method of segmenting the skin has a much lower accuracy rate, usually below 80%, and deep learning is able to increase the accuracy rate to 98.5%.

TuringNet AI Beauty App is a decentralized digital image processing technique that improves image quality by using machine vision to identify the content of an image. It’s about taking studio effects that you achieve with Lightroom and Photoshop and making them accessible to people at the click of a button. So you’re able to smooth the skin and get rid of blemishes, but not just by blurring it — you also get texture.

In the past, the technology behind ‘smooth skin’ and ‘beauty’ modes has essentially been about blurring the image to hide imperfections.
