Grand Theft Auto VI officially delayed to May 2026
Rockstar puts an end to speculation, most probably makes the right call despite fan disappointment
The smart money was always on this happening rather than not happening, but it’s good to finally get official word from Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto VI, the much-awaited sequel to one of the most successful video games of all time, is now scheduled for release on May 26th, 2026. The title, as per Rockstar’s previous shareholder briefing, was supposed to be made available at some point during the third quarter of this year — but the very fact that it’s still more than twelve months away suggests it was not anywhere near to being ready for a 2025 September-to-November release after all.
Rockstar practically admitted as much in its announcement, too:
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
