PS5 laid bare at last, pleasant surprises underneath
Sony takes the new PlayStation apart in an official video just over a month before its release
Less than five weeks before the PlayStation5 finds its way into living rooms all around the world — but before tech reporters actually get a chance to take a detailed look at its hardware — Sony decided to publish a complete teardown video on the official PlayStation YouTube channel. Yasuhiro Ootori, head of Sony’s mechanical design for the PS5, does the teardown himself in Japanese (English captions are also available), taking the system apart bit by bit until all of its components are on the table, revealing some important information about the product in the process.
First of all: yes, the rumors were true. The white panels of the PS5 can be easily removed and replaced with different ones, so we now fully expect Sony to make other colors or special designs for those panels available separately (either at launch or later on).
