Open 35th Letter to the Community Pertaining to the Dreadful State of TUSD

Whistleblower Insight on Recent Governing Board Meeting Agenda Items RE: Palo Verde and Booth-Fickett

During the last two Board meetings HT Sanchez has placed Palo Verde Magnet High School and Booth-Fickett Magnet School on the agendas to “brag” on the schools. We, at each of the schools, very much like that our schools get positive attention but not under the current situation.

By showcasing our schools and saying lots of good things about what we are doing, is it expected that we and the public will not believe that despite all the good stuff, there are real problems at our schools. THERE ARE REAL PROBLEMS AT OUR SCHOOLS.

Additionally, what HT has taken to brag about our schools, we actually should have been doing as magnet schools.

His highlighting us on the heels of “bad press” validates the fact that he did not know what was going on at our schools.

When problems are ignored and are allowed to fester, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, like PUBLIC exposure of the problems at the community level to promote change.

This is the case with Booth-Fickett Magnet Middle School and Palo Verde Magnet High School. It is amazing what public attention to problems can do; especially during an election year.

Thanks to KGUN9 News, Three Sonorans, and Arizona Daily Independent the situation at Booth-Fickett and Palo Verde was made public. The Arizona Daily Star never mentioned a word about the discipline problems at the schools and anything done at the other two local television stations is not worth much of a mention.

What became clear during the exposure is that principals had been directed to “lighten-up” on discipline to get our discipline numbers down. We know it and HT Sanchez knows it. The “lighten-up” meant that violations at the schools were (and are) being ignored until they just could not be ignored.

We also know that most ethical principals know that HT’s hinge men have communicated the “lighten-up” message in a variety of discrete ways because they know that Sanchez is just wanting to cheat his way out of the court order.

So, HT was caught cheating. But not so fast! This sleazy cheater knows how to deflect better than Satin. So he pointed to the schools. He fired the principal at Booth-Fickett and burned his buddy at PV. One of these days the three Board majority members will realize that they have put the safety of our students and employees at risk by not allowing principals to implement TUSD discipline policies.

The problems at Palo Verde and Booth Fickett with discipline were a well-kept secret for the last few years and, especially at Palo Verde. We at PV have known about growing gang problems for some time but our Principal was hampered by 1010 in allowing him to keep our school safe by properly dealing with discipline violations. Our SRO was also hampered. Those of us at the school knew it was just a matter of time before there were several “blow-ups” and sure enough a number of severe discipline problems surfaced. Severe fights and serious threats became common place at PV. Abel Morado and company would not allow the PV administration to do what was needed. We know it and HT knows it.

We appreciate that our Principal is going toe-to-toe with HT on this issue and we are completely behind him! We are sorry that Chuck Bermudez was let go. He made a lot of good changes without much support and the dog and pony show that was made by the current principal and assistant principal at the August 23, 2016 Board meeting was all about them taking credit without acknowledging all that he improved.

For a leader that has been at the school for more than 20 years, it is amazing that Eileen Gow had the nerve to blame the “historical” situation on silos. She was in her office and in her silo without any complaints and never suggested going non-silo. All of the sudden she has to do real work. When you are part of the problem you (Eileen) should not throw stones.

It is nice to highlight nice things about a school. It is, however, unconscionable to sugar coat, white-wash, cover-up, or otherwise try to sweep the problems under the TUSD dusty and bumpy rug. The problems, which were exposed, are what brought PV and BF to the forefront. Board meeting performances do not fool the public!

Kristal Foster is a disgrace to women, to elected officials, and to the human race. She has gone way beyond “mean girl” antics. She pulled a stunt during the Board meeting that was evil, plain evil. Three Sonorans has amply covered it and we agree.

For months we have heard a lot criticism of our Whistleblower letters because we called Kristal out so much. We were the first to point out her mean streak and her infatuation with Sanchez. Now everyone knows why it was important to point out her personality quirks. They get in her way of governing. She does not govern.

Gratitude

Three Sonorans has been great for publishing every single one of our letters. We also appreciate greatly that the Arizona Daily Independent publishes many of our letters and references them within their own posts, from time to time. Additionally, we want to acknowledge an organization that is also working very hard to expose the facts about TUSD:TUSDKidsFirst, which also has made reference to our letters, which we appreciate.
