Today, we are thrilled to announce our biggest and boldest update since we launched! We have been working closely with our community to redesign the user journey from the ground up.
Booking lessons has become even more frictionless.
We have reduced the number of steps required to search down to just three: level, subject and location. This enables parents to find a tutor they love in seconds, then choose a date and time that fits. Flipping the process 180 degrees has 4x our match rate as well as empowers parents with greater flexibility and choice. This new update was inspired by the transformation that we have all undergone during the pandemic.
The way we learn, work and travel has radically changed. Therefore, we wanted to evolve our product at the same pace.
What’s different?
Until now, searching for a tutor required parents to add their availability, day by day, in addition to their desired lesson duration. The feedback we heard highlighted that this was a lot of upfront work with no guarantee of being matched to a tutor. It made sense…you needed to select a time that at least one other tutor had entered. As you can imagine, with the most popular subjects that was never an issue, but when we started to introduce History, Geography and Languages, our match rate dropped.
As you can see, the user interface has been dramatically simplified. Instead of trying to match schedules as well as every other data point, we deferred this part of the process until after the parent has found a tutor they can truly see themselves working with. On the surface, the difference may seem subtle, but it required restructuring of our algorithm.

From the very beginning, we have been focused on making the process of booking a tutor safe and as simple as possible—the initial response from our parents, students and tutors has been overwhelmingly positive—which tells me we may have just achieved that.
