‘Based on a True Story’ Ups the Ridiculousness
Season two outdoes the first in more ways than one.
Based on a True Story follows two regular people as they decide to start a true crime podcast. The second season continues the story as a new serial killer begins to terrorize LA.
Season two goes bigger with its story than it did in the first season. For the most part, I think this season is pretty fun to watch, keeping you entertained with plenty of dramatic character moments. Each episode also has a pretty great cliffhanger, encouraging you to click that “keep watching” button.
Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) are new parents and are navigating so many new aspects of life. They also balance the difficulties of everyday things like paying the bills and maintaining a semblance of sanity.
In this season, Ava has become more isolated as she’s dealing with all of the challenges and joys of motherhood. She is trying to be a great parent and not at all like her own mother, but she also doesn’t have much support around her. Based on a True Story highlights how your friend group changes over time as life stages change. We also watch how awkward it is for Ava to try to make new friends. As a woman in my 30s, I felt that awkwardness deeply in my soul.
