I would say that audio is an effective storytelling method for social because audio storytelling has become extremely popular. Audio storytelling owes a lot to technology, as smartphones allow people to consume shows on demand anywhere, and cars increasingly come equipped with satellite radio and Internet-friendly dashboards. People like to engage in good stories now of days and many are using audio to do just that.

Audio conveys emotion far better than print. It captures intangible aspects of a story such as a speaker’s mood, their sadness/happiness can be felt. Audio also adds authenticity.

Audio is less intrusive than vision, and therefore lends itself to traumatic stories. It is far less invasive to record someone’s voice than to stick a camera in their face; it allows you to maintain empathy and connection, important considerations that will support an interviewee who has a difficult story to tell. Audio is about intimacy.

Plus, it just adds to the convenience of people getting their news. As we know, social videos are often watched on our smartphones. So if we use audio to get our news and stories of interest, we could just listen as it plays and wouldn’t have to watch it.

Meaning we could do other things or multitask while listening to the audio piece. When people get their stories through audio without any visuals, it allows them to use their imaginations. We can paint a picture in our minds of the different scenes that make the story. It also allows for the storyteller to get deep into describing the details in order for the listeners to have great visuals which makes a good audio piece. Then you have the different soundbites from interviews and your narration written into it. Also background music is also very effective especially in the intro it can grab listeners attention.
