Most of us who are on the internet are capable of obtaining the news whenever we’d like. We have our mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktops for our connivence.

With all of these devices, and the internet, of course, we are able to get the news or any other kind of information, within minutes. We are pretty spoiled in this scenes because there are some people around the world who don’t have these technologies to their advance. Some of these people may only have access to a mobile phones. This is where we can bring in messaging apps into the news world.

Wikipedia

One popular messaging app is WhatsApp. It’s not used a lot in America, but I know about it because I use it as a form to communicate with my family abroad. The app is pretty much like you iMessage on iPhones. You can text, send documents such as, pictures and video, and you can also send voice notes. Another cool feature that WhatsApp has is that you can call others- voice and video.

WhatsApp has become popular around the world because it has become an easy and cheap way for people to obatin news. According to a study done by the Reuters Institute for The Study of Journalism featuring 34 countries around the world, concluded that WhatsApp has become one of the main ways people discover, discuss, and share news. The study showed that a 15% of users used WhatsApp to obtain their news. Also, countries like Malaysia (51%), Brazil (46%), and Spain (32%), use the messaging app the most.

Although we don’t put much use to the app here in the states, the rest of the world sure does.
