Censorship is a broader term limiting people by suppressing speech, public communications, or banning content that can be accessed by people globally. The censorship can be traced centuries back when rulers and kings prohibited their nations from telling stories of their rivals or quoting the victories of opponents. In my opinion, history is always written by those who won, and the one who win the war burns out all old manuscripts which could be used against them. This has happened in many wars globally.

The stories were mainly told by the storytellers and never penned down as it was hard to write a book and make copies of it. Before the invention of the printing press, books were handwritten, and all copies had to be written again and it took extreme effort for making copies of it. If anyone could have done the effort and made copies of it, the one who won the war could burn all the copies if it was against them. In the mid-1400s, a German craftsman named Johannes Gutenberg invented a way in which he could arrange the metal types and print 250 pages per hour. This was a quicker way to make copies of books but it was tough too, so the books were costly as well. His printing press was named after him as Gutenberg Printing Press and become history’s first known printing press.

However, the printing press was opposed by the catholic churches as the press was printing many religious books and most of them could be against them. The catholic churches were in power and burned out many books as well. However, being in power, they started using the press and become the prestigious client of the press by starting to get their books printed by the press.

The catholic churches not only started their business with the printing press but also started the term “Censorship” which let them choose what to print or whatnot. So, they took the benefits of their power, and behind the shoulders of CENSORSHIP, they never allowed anyone to write against them. This term is then carried out in the pre-modern era of communication as well. At the beginning of radio communication, a censor board was formed during the forming era of America, and similar activities were traced in Europe and other continents as well.

Even in present days, censorship is controlled by those who rule, and they can censor your freedom and not let you say what you want to express. A similar example can be seen in North Korea, the perfect example of suppression of speech and the hidden agendas of the rulers behind the shoulders of censorship.
