At Tweeten, we ❤ GIFs. We recently added the ability to download .GIFs on Tweeten for Windows and Mac. But we want to take GIFs on Tweeten a step further. So today, we are really excited to introduce GIF Search!

With GIF Search, you’ll be able to search for any GIFs from Giphy, and upload to Twitter. You can access this feature from the Compose sidebar, just below the Direct Message button. When you open the GIF Search feature for the first time, you’ll be asked to set a directory where Tweeten will download the GIFs. Once opened, you’ll see a bunch of GIF Search suggestions — similar to Twitter’s own GIF Search feature on its Mobile apps and Web client. You can use any of those suggestions, or just search for anything you want.

Preview GIFs by hovering over them

Just like most of Tweeten’s features, GIF Search is available on Windows, as well as macOS:

This feature would be a lot better if we could upload it directly to TweetDeck, rather than having to manually choose the GIF — unfortunately, as Tweeten works over TweetDeck, we do not have access to some TweetDeck functions.

Also, we have fixed all the performance issues which you guys have been reporting about for the past few weeks. We have also updated the spellchecker feature in the app, and there are a couple of other fixes too:

  • You can search for GIFs on Tweeten and upload them to TweetDeck pretty easily!
  • The update fixes all the performance issues introduced with the recent updates
  • We have fixed an issue where Tweeten would forget its position on multi-monitor setups
  • Tweeten now properly remembers its Fullscreen state
  • We’ve updated how spellchecking works in the app, so it should be slightly faster now
  • Fixed an issue which prevented the spellchecker from working properly on macOS
  • Fixed an issue which prevented users from being able to remote a Quoted Tweet on the Compose sidebar
  • Other minor improvements throughout the app

If you would like to download the latest update, you can grab it from the links below:

We already have some plans for future Tweeten updates. However, these features are pretty big, and I will also be really busy over the coming months — so these features will take a little while to arrive (some may not even come this year). I’ll continue to add minor things and improve the app over the coming months, but don’t expect a lot of major updates.

Thanks for using Tweeten! :)
