Bend me, shape me…
I like to dabble in yoga. I’m no expert but I will do it from once or twice a week to sometimes every day, depending on how motivated I am. I mainly do it to strengthen and tone, provide a sense of calm and increase my flexibility. One day, I aspire to be as flexible as my Twenix timetable can be … ba, dum, tssshhh.
For example, you can teach whenever you like. You can also do as many classes or as few as you like. You truly are your own boss. You can choose to work Monday to Friday and/or at weekends, you can organise your routine for morning classes, afternoon classes or evening classes, or a mix of both — really whatever suits you best. With Twenix you can also pick up classes last minute, more about that later. Twenix, like yoga, can also be for everyone. From experienced TEFL teachers to newbies just starting out. From people with lots of free time to those with just a couple of hours to spare. From those who want specific regular hours to those who want to pick up classes here and there.
I’ve just about nailed my routine (I like a routine) — I get up and do some exercise (and my yoga), do some work in the mornings, have lunch, do Twenix classes in the afternoons and then the world is my oyster. Sometimes I’ll work extra on certain days and block off an afternoon or two to indulge in a side hustle of mine, baking (check out my Recipe for a Great Twenix Class here if you haven’t read it already). Sometimes I’ll do 5 days a week or take a break if I want to go on holiday or entertain visitors (living in Andalucia in the south of Spain means hearing from friends and family more often than you do when you live in the same country!).
The platform I work for also offers the ability to open your availability ‘last minute’ which allows students to book classes up until 15 minutes before the lesson start time (the standard is usually two hours notice for the teacher). My timetable will often fill up throughout the day as students take advantage of canceled meetings . Another great benefit is if something urgent comes up, or if honestly, you’re having a hard day (which happens, sometimes we need some RnR so we can continue to give our best), you can transfer your classes to another available Tweacher. Obviously done with as much notice as possible — if there isn’t anyone available, you will still have to do the class. Similarly, you can pick up these “up for grabs” classes and help out a colleague even if your availability is not open, but are free and up for a chat. We also have some students in other timezones so literally, there are classes to teach 24/7 — great for those who are night owls! be careful though — working crazy hours non-stop is not recommended… Yes, it’s fab that you are super keen but remember to schedule in a slot to take a break, especially during peak times when demand is high.
In summary, working at Twenix is super adaptable, for teachers’ and students’ schedules alike. One point worth highlighting and to bear in mind is that although the flexibility of the platform really works for you, it works best like everything in life — when it is respected. Behind the classes are real people, real students with real needs, so it’s important to respect their time and schedule as much as you respect your own. Namaste.
