A Peek Inside the TCSW 2019 Fly-in Program with Dave Elliston
Have you been curious about exploring the startup scene in the Twin Cities, but haven’t had the method or means to get here? Twin Cities Startup Week is bringing back their Fly-in Program for another year for those interested in engaging in our vibrant, ever-evolving community!
We chatted with Dave Elliston — a Charlotte transplant whose first exposure to the Twin Cities was through TCSW’s Fly-in Program — to hear about his experience. After finding himself in a transitionary phase in his career, Dave sought to leave Charlotte, North Carolina to pursue a career in a vivacious tech hub. Most tech evangelists choose to migrate west to Silicon Valley, and perhaps Dave would have too, had he not received the recommendation to check out Minnesota through TCSW’s Fly-in Program.
Dave’s Fly-in experience included three days filled with informative panels from industry experts, networking sessions, and the opportunity to explore the city’s vibrant atmosphere. He didn’t know a single person when he first arrived in the Twin Cities, but networking dinners with other Fly-in participants helped him break the ice. For Dave, the Fly-in Program was the perfect opportunity to learn about a multitude of Minnesota-based companies, get a comprehensive overview of the Twin Cities’ tech scene, and make lasting connections with other ambitious visionaries.
The trip was such a success that Dave decided to stay; shortly following the week, Dave was offered a job in tech, and moved to the Twin Cities.
Dave’s advice for those considering applying — “Do it, it’s awesome! And take advantage of every opportunity to have a conversation with someone.”
The Fly-in Program is tailor-made for entrepreneurs, creatives, and tech professionals who have no existing network in the cities. With a wide variety of events and networking opportunities, anyone can find their niche at TCSW. Dave’s Fly-in story is one of many that has ended with a relocation to the Twin Cities following Startup Week. Not everyone moves here, but like Dave, there’s value in the countless lasting connections made with fellow attendees.
