A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS — 5 THINGS TO REMEMBER

For a long time in my life I focused so hard on surrounding myself with successful people that I completely lost sight of my goals. I was so wrapped up in being part of the in-crowd that instead of putting the hours in honing my craft, I spent my time at industry parties and swanky bars trying to live the life my successful friends enjoyed.

The only difference was that most of those people were 10+ years older than me and earned that lifestyle by working REALLY fucking hard.

Needless to say, eventually I had to start grafting, but the whole experience taught me some incredibly valuable life lessons, which I will impart onto you, the reader, now:

1. At the end of the day, you are all you have — don’t expect others to carry you along. You will trip up if you’re not constantly learning and pushing yourself.

2. You are smarter than you think, so play to your strengths — I wouldn’t have managed to surround myself with successful people if I was a total idiot. At a young age I learnt that I was good at selling myself and I used that skill to meet the right people.

3. Socialise as often as possible, but know when to leave the party — I didn’t manage to develop this skill and it cost me a lot in terms of my mental & physical health (although I had a good time!).

4. Fake it until you make it — everyone is doing it and they’re too wrapped up in their own life to notice what you’re doing. The better you can make yourself look, the more you will achieve. Just make sure lesson #1 is at front of mind at all times.

5. Be kind, gracious, and polite at all times — you will meet a lot of people along your journey and you never know who your next client/customer could be. Always make good first impressions.

TLDR — Look to successful people for inspiration, then get to fucking work so that in 10 years time YOU can live the life they enjoy and do it your way.
