Petal

Another photo from this summer.

This petal had blown off a plant that was on the window ledge.

The camera I used to take this photograph was the same model as one I’d first owned in the early 1990s.

At that time, it had cost me a couple of months’ salary (I wasn’t earning much). I used to skimp on everything so that I could spend more on film and cameras.

I had hoped to make a living from photography eventually, but I had to give up on that idea.

Perhaps it was for the best — I keep reading about people who turn their hobbies into jobs, then end up hating what they once loved.

To get back to this photograph, I used to call my rescue cat ‘Petal’. Her original owner had named her ‘Rosie’ but I didn’t like that so much.

In the end I had to give up on the cat too, as I was moving to a house on a main road ( She went to a new owner).
