This Seat’s Taken interview series: Star & Pierre of Anything Under Our Stars

Life can take us in all kinds of mysterious directions, often with our partners in tow. Just look at Pierre and Star, the blogging and traveling couple behind Anything Under Our Stars. College sweethearts and expats, these two have made time for each other, a family, and travel, to boot. And they’ve offered to share some of their hard-won experience and advice with us!

What’s your story?

Our love story began way back in college when we had common friends who introduced us to one another. Pierre was fresh from a break-up at the time, but still pursued me. And since then, we’ve been inseparable. Traveling was non-existent when we worked in the Philippines. But ever since we moved to Norway to find work, it opened its doors to traveling.

We have good-paying jobs now that allow us to fly around Europe. In addition, since Norway is in Europe, traveling around Europe is quite affordable. We’ve been a few trips with our friends but nothing beats exploring a new place just the two of us. Traveling is just a perfect opportunity for us to bond and get know each other more. We just love making memories while traveling.

Do you have the same travel style or different travel styles? How does this impact your adventures together?

Usually, we do the backpacking-ish style of traveling plus a decent hotel (not 5-star) and we make a budget-friendly itinerary. But if we do travel with our family, we tend to shift to a group tour-travel style where everything is set and less walking tours for the kids. Overall, the backpacking style is what we love most because we love the hustle and bustle of the trip. We love the drama and the compromise afterwards — all that sort of thing.

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned from traveling as partners? What makes your partnership work on the road?

The biggest thing we’ve learned from traveling together is that patience comes a long way. It doesn’t matter how many unfortunate events happen on the trip. As long as a couple is patient with one another, the trip will still be enjoyable.

What’s the best part about traveling as partners? And the biggest challenge?

Traveling just the two of us guarantees we’re in for one enjoyable trip. Our chemistry is just off the charts and there’s never a dull moment. Not much of a challenge, but we’re a bit indecisive when it comes to choosing a restaurant.

Based on your experience, what’s the best advice you have for couples who have just scheduled their first trip together?

Make a good itinerary and enjoy! It’s going to be romantic!

Also, buy data roaming and you’ll be traveling like a local.
