The Coffee Break Content:

J2EE application servers that have been developed over the years have evolved into everything that is possible. What does this mean for resource consumption and are there alternatives?

Our statement today deals with a small comparison between different J2EE server approaches and one of it’s most popular alternatives Spring Boot.

Setup:

  • Dell E6320 from 2011 running Ubuntu Linux
  • Hello-World REST application based on Eclipse Microprofile

Result:

There are significant differences between the products in terms of startup time, memory and disc space consumption.
