Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart

Sam Walton is the founder of Walmart which does more than $500B in sales and has over 2M employees.

People attribute most of Wal-Mart’s success to Sam Walton’s virtues.

Here are 7 lessons I learned from Sam Walton’s book: Made in America…

1. Believe you can do anything

“There is no limit to what working people can accomplish if they’re given the opportunity and incentive to do their best.”

“That’s how Wal-Mart became Wal-Mart: ordinary people joined together to accomplish extraordinary things.”

2. Always try to be your best

“Pursue things you are interested in with a true passion .”

“I’ve personally set high goals for myself so I can hold myself accountable to be the best I can be.”

3. You can learn from everybody

“Always look for ways to do a better job by learning from others.”

“Most everything I’ve done I’ve learned from someone else.”

4. Stay flexible

“Constant change is a vital part of the Wal-Mart culture.”

“To succeed, you have to stay out in front of that change.”

5. Wake up early

“Time in the early morning is tremendously valuable: it’s an uninterrupted time to think and sort things out.”

“Use that time to make a plan and execute on it throughout the working day.”

6. Think obsessively about your customers

“The secret of success is to give your customers what they want.”

“Discover something your customer desires, and then deliver it.”

“No business can exist without customers. Make the customer the centerpiece of all his efforts.” — Roberto Goizueta

7. Build a team

“At Wal-Mart, everything has been the result of people pulling together to meet one common goal — teamwork.”

“If you want to build an enterprise of any size, it goes without saying that you must create a team of people who work together and give real meaning to a common goal.”
