Background

I’ve been a minimalist ever since I graduated from college.

I remember listening to a lot of self-development and personal finance podcasts. They preached the basics of simplifying and covering your basic needs.

For self-development, they discuss how to perform well, you need to cover and take care of your needs first.

Once you take care of your needs, you have fewer worries, so you can focus on learning, creating, and growing,

For personal finance, it’s the same. Cover your basic needs and then focus on investing.

Even the investing principles are simple. Stick to ETFs, limit the time you spend on investing, and free yourself up for what you care about.

These principles of simplicity give you space to think, create, and live.

As I experienced the benefits of minimalism, expanded these principles to all aspects of my life.

I realized why Charmin Ultra’s theme song “Less is more” was true.

“Sometimes, less is more.” — William Shakespeare

Examples of Less is More

When you buy less, that leads to more money in your pocket and more security.

When you buy less, that leads to more space and cleanliness in your house.

When you do less, you have more mental clarity over what’s important to you.

When you think less, you have more peace and room for understanding.

When you make less promises, you have more flexibility and options.

When you have less options, you have more energy to make decisions.

Benefits of Less is More

We live in a world of abundance. An abundance of options, content, food, things…

This abundance is wonderful, but it can also lead to a lot of issues. Hard decisions, feelings of missing out, feelings of dissatisfaction, and anxiety.

We compare ourselves to other people, and what they have, and always want more.

But, what if what we need is less?

What if what need is to understand ourselves, our needs, our desires, and do enough?

This may give us more time, peace of mind, and clarity.

What do you need?

What could you do with less of and how would that lead to more of something else?
