For Project 4 I would like to experiment with sneaker sales data from StockX. StockX is an online resale platform that serves as a 3rd party to verify and facilitate resale transactions and shipping. I have been a “sneakerhead” since the age of 13 and I would like to bring awareness (in a fun way) to the massive resale market that exists today.

The data I found is from the annual StockX data contest. The data set contains sales information for Yeezy and Nike x Off-White sneakers. The categories include order date, brand, sneaker name, sales price, retail price, release date, shoe size, and buyer region. From this information, I should be able to answer questions regarding resale profit, buyer hotspots, and potentially release date patterns.

In terms of the visual narrative, I believe that a geographical map or timeline would be most interesting to play with. Since the topic isn’t of much importance, it might be best to display this information through online fashion publications or in retail stores. I would like to grab the attention of those who aren’t “sneakerheads” so that I can bring attention to my subculture that has created an entire market of its own.
