It’s 9:45 am, Monday morning… and I’ve finished A Whole Day’s Work!

That was my experience at the first Type-A Breakfast Meetup in South Melbourne this morning.

Type-A Breakfast Notes

A week ago, I created this Meetup (Event Description. Meetup Page) — to enable myself, and others, to be super productive.

The promise was — Get a whole day’s work done in 2 hours (7:30–9:30 am) on a Monday morning.

The momentum is incredibly motivating… And you can go on to get all of Tuesday’s work done by lunchtime; and all of Wednesday’s work by 5 pm on Monday.

Imagine the momentum you’ll have, and competitive advantage you’ll gain in your business and career!

Of the 10 who RSVPed for this morning’s breakfast — 6 turned up.

(It’s awesome to meet people who are willing to get out of bed early, and ready to take on the world at 7:30 am on a Monday morning!)

I chatted briefly with everyone after we were done, and had a sense that everyone found the session useful.

Here’s some feedback from the session (slightly paraphrased):

“The peer pressure was good. It’s like studying in a library.”

“When I was about to get distracted, I saw everyone typing away furiously — and I got back to work.”

Here are a couple of things I’ll do differently next week (based on feedback):

  1. 5-Min Introduction: Give everyone an opportunity (5 mins total) to introduce each other to new-comers around the table; and possibly share what each person aims to complete. (This morning, people just came to the table, and started working.)
  2. 5-Min Mid-point Break: Prompt everyone to take a 5 min break (take a short walk outside the cafe / chat with each other) at the 60-minute mark.
  3. Share Accomplishments at the End: End the session (at 9:30 am) by inviting everyone to share how much they’ve accomplished (45 seconds each person)
  4. (Personally) Prepare by Sunday evening — by listing a full-day’s worth of tasks (estimated 8 hours of work), and bringing it to the breakfast. By the 90-minute mark, I felt like I had done a full-day’s worth of work. I had completed a list of tasks that had strategic impact; some planning; and some tasks that I’ve been procrastinating over — for a couple of weeks. If I had created a detailed list, I would have been able to track and measure efficiency better. I didn’t have a list — so while it felt like I experienced a great deal of efficiency, I could not measure.

Anyway — all in all — this morning’s session was a personal success. I trust it worked well for the 5 others who joined me this morning. And I look forward to next Monday.
