After all, Jesus knew he would be resurrected and even prophesied of it. When His disciples found out that Jesus really came to them by hearing the heavenly voice and seeing His presence, they were afraid.

that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 15:4.

It seems like things have not changed much. Now we are afraid of the power of technology as the advent of AI technology reincarnates people who may never have wanted to continue their lives. Anthony Bourdain‘s A.I-generated voice has set the fire online, and whether the director of the documentary expected it or not, it has caused controversy. Although the director stated that he received permission from Mr. Bourdain’s widow and his literary executor to generate his A.I. voice, that’s not enough to assuage anyone’s concerns about the ethical issues.

As one of the viewers, it was interesting to see how people reacted to Anthony Bourdain’s A.I-generated voice. When Neosapience, a company known for its AI speech synthesis technology, cloned a deceased daughter’s voice at the request of a mother, people were moved by the scene of the daughter having a birthday party with her mother wearing VR glasses. The mother could not help but burst into tears when she saw the real-life hologram version of her daughter speaking with the little girl’s actual voice.

The MBC documentary “Meeting you,” which aired in February 2020, received a lot of attention from the VR content of the deceased little girl leaving many people in tears.

Why was Anthony Bourdain’s AI-generated voice not the right decision?

People applauded the version with the little girl, while the documentary from Anthony Bourdain could not resist heavy criticism.

What are the differences between these two documentaries?

  • Anthony Bourdain literally read the email he wrote and did not talk about anything the actual Anthony would not say if he were alive.
  • The little girl’s avatar spoke something she did not utter.
  • Aside from the content of what AI voices read or speak in the voices of actual humans, the biggest difference is whether the person wants to be incarnate or not and the purpose of an incarnation.

The little girl was brought back to life because her mother was desperate to meet her and say a proper goodbye as she had to spend the last moment of her life in the hospital battling blood cancer. Anthony Bourdain‘s voice was purely used to make a form of entertainment vivid and lifelike. Besides, Anthony is the one who decided to end his life himself, and would he be happy knowing that his voice was cloned using AI technology? No one really knows and has ever asked him, but his answer would probably be “no”.

The verdict

Anyone can take advantage of technology, whether it’s AI voice or not, but how to use it is not a simple problem. The use of AI voice technology is like a double-edged sword in that it can benefit and delight someone while fatally harming someone. If the fatally harmed person is already dead, who would take responsibility?

At least Jesus knew what would happen after his resurrection, but do we know what would happen after we die? Now people have to worry not only about heaven or hell but also about how they will be portrayed and reincarnated by their posterity.
