Having many options sounds good, but choice overload is not good either, where people have a hard time making a decision when faced with many options. Why is over choice important for a company that makes an AI voice-over generator? It is important because our potential users start a journey by searching for the best AI voice, and once they access our service, the journey is not over yet as they have to choose the best voice for their content.

The unique voices with the unique characters

Of course, for those who need a realistic AI voice, the quality of the voice is paramount. However, over the time we have been running our service typecast, we have noticed some interesting facts when our users use our service. Before we jump into the main topic, there are some differentiators you need to know about our AI voice-over. Besides having more than 100 voices in our voice library, we also have 100+ characters. Usually, other online voice over generators love to put the faces of actual humans when a user hears their voice samples, but we’ve created a unique AI voice actor face/character by imagining the future that comes with the Metaverse where our AI voice actors can be active online as virtual humans.

Speaking of characters, is there a correlation between the popularity of the character and the voice?

As you can see from the image above, users get to see the characters as soon as they start typecasting. We would like to know if the appearance of the character affects the use of the voice. To take a look at this matter, our voice team set several parameters: Calculate the empirical probability of using the downloaded characters before paid users make a payment, check how many users used some characters that day by date, and whether there is an active character that is used every day and whether it is only used for a certain period of time for one or two people.

The correlation between characters and voices

Although these parameters are not sufficient to measure the correlation between characters and voices, we wanted to take a stab at figuring out our next goal in terms of character creation. If the appearance of the character prevents the jewel voice from being used by our users, we need to make a change immediately. How then do we create a character, and how do we make sure the voice is best suited for the character?

Let’s say we create a character targeting those who need commercial voice-over generators. After modeling the voice, we listen closely to the result and gather any typical or unique images of a commercial type that people can think of. By analyzing the voice to see if it sounds serious, happy, or calm, we create a unique persona that looks like the commercial guy from a commercial between daytime TV shows.

The Outcome?

Getting back to the topic at hand, what was the result, and was there a correlation between characters and voices? The answer is yes! And no! I don’t want to confuse you, but as we expected, it was not easy to measure the correlation, and the result looks very different depending on the user type. Free users tend to prefer some popular characters that they can use on Tiktok or Youtube along with voice, so for them, there is a strong correlation between voice usage and characters. In contrast, paid users show no pattern or correlation when it comes to voice and character usage. Once they stick with their favorite voice, they use it no matter what appearance their favorite characters have. Since it’s subjective, it’s honestly still not clear what kind of characters or voices are the best options for getting people to create voiceovers. As we prepare to launch a new feature where our users can create video content by typing text, characters will take on a more important role in our service. Users can choose to use AI actors or characters for their video content.
