Speaking a standard language spoken in a country would be easy for an AI, even if it sounds somewhat robotic due to a lack of emotion, intonation, and prosody. We’ve even seen multiple AIs speaking different languages, which is no longer surprising.

AI that speaks different dialects

When an AI starts talking and picks up some words after babbling like a real baby (I know they didn’t babble, but the way the first generation AI talked was awful), people now expect things that a real human would do. Let me give you a simple example. I have a friend who is from Texas and moved to LA after graduating high school. When he went to college in California, he began to lose his Texas accent and speak like a Californian. What happened to him? It’s obvious that he adapted to life in California by getting along with his friends and soaking up the new life in the new city. What does this have to do with the AI speaking different languages? Now we expect our AI voice actors to do exactly what he went through. They’ve learned to speak the default language, or the first language our researchers trained them to speak, and it’s time for them to learn different kinds of dialects when they’ve grown enough to go out into the world and interact with different people.

A company that has managed to gain over 400,000 active users after 2 years of launching its AI voice actor platform has proven how unique its AI voice actors can be in terms of speaking dialects.

BTS Speaking Satoori (Dialects)

South Korea is a relatively small country, as it is about 99 times smaller than the US and the same size as the US state of Indiana. Nevertheless, there are surprisingly different types of regional dialects, that is, about 5 dialects besides the standard language spoken in the capital and reported in the media. The Korean dialects are called “Satoori” and even some passionate foreigners who are into K-pop have taken interest in it as some of their biases speak “Satoori”. I even stumbled upon a video on Youtube explaining the Jeolla dialect. It seemed like the dialect has become somewhat famous as the member of BTS, J-Hope, speaks this dialect. Other members of BTS also speak the Gyeong-Sang provincial dialect, including Suga, Jimin, Jungkook, and V, as the video below shows how they sound.

Like other languages, Korean regional dialects sound like a different language to a native Korean speaker if they were born and raised in the capital. Each dialect has its own rhythm, unique vocabulary, intonation, and stress. Our first goal in creating AI voice actors whose native language is a Korean dialect is to provide users with a diverse selection of voices. This not only allows creators to create unique content but also allows some local districts to produce high-quality content with a professional voice speaking their native dialects.

Characters from Typecast speaking Korean dialects

In addition, emotional features have been added so that users using our Typecast service can set sadness, anger, and happiness. Since the voices are produced by professional voice actors who speak different dialects, the quality of the voices is guaranteed. We can proudly recommend these voices to someone who wants to know what Korean dialects sound like. Since we treat our AI voice actors like real potential celebrities, their characters are also carefully designed to represent each region. Can’t get the gist of Korean dialects? No problem! You can always listen to the audio samples and try your own version.

Until more users can tell their stories in different ways, we will tirelessly ask our users’ needs and explore what we can do to meet their needs. We dream of a large ecosystem of AI actors that people willingly participate in and that gives them what they need. We want you to experience our service, even if you’re not creating content yet! You must have something to say and that can always be your own content! We’d love to support you at any minute if you haven’t started it!
