When it comes to voice cloning, celebrities come to mind first because they have familiar voices that many people recognize immediately when they hear them.

Also, with an AI speaker like Alexa, it has become normal to hear the voices of celebrities in our everyday lives. Actors and celebrities who have distinctive voices have provided their voices, including Melissa McCarthy, Shaquille O’Neal, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gordan Ramsay.

Aside from the financial benefits, what would drive celebrities to clone their voices using AI technology? I’d say it’s ultimately about their presence and interaction with their fans.

Being able to speak different languages

With the help of AI technology, celebrities can speak different languages in their own voices. Suppose a famous basketball player, Lebron James, whose native language is English, records his voice in a studio by reading scripts in English. Although he does not speak Japanese, the AI enables him to speak fluent Japanese in his voice.

It is even able to predict what accent he might have when speaking a completely different language. For this reason, we wait for the best technology that will allow us to watch a great movie or TV show without subtitles and immerse ourselves in the movie.

Interact with their fans on a deeper level

But why would celebrities want to speak different languages? Being able to speak many languages means having more empathy with more people around the world. Even if AI doesn’t make them understand the cultural side behind the language, fans who interact with celebrities have the illusion that the celebrities are really communicating with them.

BTS has released a Korean language learning package along with their voice features for their fans.

Fans of the famous boy band BTS, for example, are eager to learn Korean because they truly want to understand their stars’ backgrounds and connect with them on a deeper level. Needless to say, celebrities who thrive on the sincere support of others absolutely need this technology to speak various languages fluently in their own voices without a language barrier.

They can make money without physically working by just providing their IPs.

Last but not least, this is such an obvious reason, but what everyone hopes to accomplish, I suppose. Celebrities do not have to physically work to make some money when their cloned voice sounds perfectly like them.

By providing their IPs, all they have to do is approve what their cloned voice would say and how it would be delivered to the audience. However, only someone who has already made that much money and is skilled in a particular field can earn money by making their IPs available. So in the end, it wasn’t about money, it was about one of the benefits that comes with all the other benefits.
