We are excited to announce our first participation to Hacktoberfest celebrations!

We should all be grateful to DigitalOcean who kicked-off the Hacktoberfest initiative 5 years ago. They are encouraging people to contribute at least 5 pull requests to open source projects (PRs) during the month of October, making this month a global celebration of open programming.

This year they have been joined by companies like Github and Twilio.
Just to give you an idea of the scale of this thing, in 2017 there were almost 240k unique pull requests that were submitted during Hacktoberfest on almost 65k repositories. This is insane!🤯

Everyone is welcome 🤗

If you ever wondered how you could you contribute to an open source project, this is your opportunity! Hacktoberfest is about creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to contribute to the open source software they know and love. This is your chance to give back to the tools and projects you use, and to help shape their future direction!

All contributions are welcome! Nothing is too big or small. You could help by fixing a bug, updating documentation, or creating sample projects to show new users how they can best make use of a library. These are just a few examples of the many ways you can contribute to open source.

How do I get involved? 🤓

The first thing to do is to register on the official Hacktoberfest page. Then, go check Github and start looking for projects.

Here you can find the list of all the projects that voluntarily tagged themselves “Hacktoberfest”. Some maintainers also have tagged issues. You can also look at the projects you use every day, they might be open source 😉

If you have never contributed to open source before, I really encourage you to check Hacktoberfest My-First-PR Starter Project. You can use this project to pratice making changes and submitting pull requests. After that you should be ready to add value to existing open source projects.

During the month, many Hacktoberfest events will be organized around the world, and there might even be one near you. We will probably participate to the local events in cities where we have offices like San Francisco and Barcelona. If there is no event organized around you, you will find all the resources to run your own here.

Something unique to wear proudly 😎

At the end of the month, if you have submitted 5 pull-requests to open source projects you will qualify to receive the exclusive and unique 2018 Hacktoberfest t-shirt thanks to DigitalOcean, Github and Twilio.

During the month, many Hacktoberfest events will be organized around the world, and there might even be one near you. 💪

Want to contribute to Typeform? 🤔

At Typeform, we are firm believers in the power of collaboration. We have a number of projects that are open to contributors of all skill levels and backgrounds:

We also welcome any contribution on any of our innovative community’s projects, such as R-Typeform, the Python SDK , and an embedded Typeform React component, to name a few.

We will have special Typeform swag to celebrate your contributions to Typeform projects during Hacktoberfest 😉.

Tell us about your journey ✒️

We want to hear how your #hacktoberfest is going, so make sure to include this hashtag and mention @typeform if you are working on a Typeform project. We will share your messages on our social media accounts, and if you want to write about your experience and learnings, we will be glad to help you write an article about it on this blog 😉

Free Typeform for Open Source Maintainers 🤗

Finally, if you are a maintainer of an open source project and want to use Typeform to organize the project, we would love to help you.

With Typeform you can:

  • Ask how your users are using your library so you can create a better tool for their use cases.
  • Learn if there are any barriers preventing would-be contributors from sharing their work with your project.
  • Ask your users what features they want most.

We have a special plan for open source and nonprofit projects: check it here.

🎵 Sweet dreams are made by geeks, who are we to ditch a PR? We travel to events and assorted meetups. Everybody is looking for swag.
