We at The Typewriter are looking for young journalists and editors who are engaged and ready to tell the world what is actually happening in their own country.

Fields of interest:

  • Politics (Policy/elections/equality/economics);
  • Law (Criminal justice/constitutional rights/international law);
  • Science (health/medical/technology/climate change); and
  • Culture (food/music/movies/theatre/art).

Location:

  • Remote + Home Office

Language requirements:

  • A strong command of English

Journalism experience:

  • Not required, but will be an advantage.

What you will be writing about:

  • You can write opinion articles on elections; you can analysis government policies; you can blog about food and restaurants; you can review music shows, movies or local theatre productions… as long as you write from your own local perspective.

Press coverage, interviews and events:

  • Now and then, you will be attending events such as Heads of State meetings, the United Nations General Assembly, fashion shows, art exhibitions, sports events, movie premiers, policy forums, etc. and provide press coverage for The Typewriter. You may also be assigned to interview public figures and politicians.

Representation:

  • You will also be invited/requested to attend events as a representative of The Typewriter. Past events we have attended include youth empowerment forum, Ted Talks, community engagement forums and the United Nations meetings.

University credit:

  • We are partnering with a number of universities and journalism schools in running external university credit programmes for their students. So if you want your time spent with The Typewriter to be counted as university credit, please contact us to make the necessary arrangements.

Funding and scholarships:

  • Whilst we do not remunerate our young writers, we arrange scholarships and funding for them via various organisations and foundations (such as UN funding and ERASMUS).

The Typewriter is an online publication that shares worldwide news and opinions with a global youth readership of 6 million. The mission of The Typewriter is to bring truly local stories and perspectives to readers from across oceans and continents in order to foster better understanding and a true sense of global citizenship.
