Portsmouth, a historically significant English port city, is frequently overlooked by foreign visitors. There are numerous reasons to visit Portsmouth.

Social historians and history students seeking to broaden their knowledge of the port city, even if it is for a week or two, might want to consider a visit. Portsmouth has much to offer. There are numerous things to see and do in and around the port city.

Persons with a fascination with the Second World War, noting how significant the port city was to allied forces, Portsmouth was the headquarters and departure point for the D-Day Landings. Numerous Naval vessels, all destined for Sword Beach, departed Portsmouth on Tuesday, 6 June 1944.

Other points of historical importance include the Royal Dockyard. The Royal Dockyards, in existence for at least five centuries, was crucial to the Royal Navy. Visitors to the well-established dockyard will find historically significant vessels.
