Part of U+’s expansion into the US market is the start-up AlertMe. Its creation was a cooperation between the U+ studio and two Americans, investor Walter Burr, and publishing expert Adam Shapiro.

AlertMe aims to help publishers generate more relevant content and reduce dependence on social media. More specifically, AlertMe helps filter information overload from the web by personalizing content. Readers and publishers both benefit, as readers can control the content they receive, while publishers can give readers more of what they want.

‘The overwhelming amount of news that comes to the reader today, along with Facebook’s growing involvement in content publishing, is currently threatening the existence of smaller publishers,’ Jan Beránek, U+ founder and CEO.

Similar to Spotify, the user relevance of the content is determined by a constantly learning application algorithm. It uses artificial intelligence and data collection by processing natural language and contextual semantics. In addition, U+ developed tailor-made AlertMe solutions. These involve UX analysis, graphic design, frontend development, and a machine-learning based backend. U+ also provided infrastructure for Amazon Web Services and API functionality.

Publishers who use AlertMe, like Inc.com, have been seeing increased traffic and engagement on their sites. The open rate of AlertMe notifications is 50%, a significant improvement on publishers’ usual newsletter open rates. Publishers are now reclaiming some of their power from social media channels like Facebook, on whom, by necessity, they’ve become far too dependent. By using AlertMe, publishers can enjoy the acquisition of first-party data, and a new revenue stream as they deliver their highest-performing CPM content. Specific information is what’s important to each individual, and AlertMe is the only way to track granular interests and deliver extreme relevancy. It’s no surprise, but if you deliver relevancy to people, they will open it.
