Statement on Nicaragua Alliance

Today, Secretary of State DavidAxelrod met with the Nicaraguan government to assure them that the United States, under new leadership, is ready to contribute in the international community and to offer any foreign, military, or intelligence aid necessary.

The Department of State is pleased to have established an alliance with Nicaragua and we look forward to strengthening each other on a global scale and protecting our citizens. We recognize that there is much more hard work to be done in the State Department and around the country, and we are excited that Nicaragua is assisting us in our work. A treaty is currently being drafted between the two nations so that the real work can begin.
