This year the typical Valentine’s date ideas/plans are off the table (thanks Covid). If Covid is keeping you and your partner apart, or you just prefer a Valentine’s date night in, we’ve got you covered! Here are 16 virtual quarindate ideas and activities that go beyond binge-watching Netflix or Disney+. They also double as fun first date ideas to break the ice and get to know a person. And, to the many of us that are still single on Valentine’s day, you could totally do some of these activities with your friends and family as well.

1. Have a virtual bake-off

Whether you’re physically together or apart, you could put your kitchen skills to the test with a bake-off. There may not be taste testing if you’re apart but that shouldn’t discourage your competitive spirit. Use the same recipe, or make two completely separate dishes, but from when you grab the bowl to when you take the first bite, this is a great activity to share with someone.

2. Play virtual cards

The internet has brought some of your childhood games to life with a new twist. You can play whatever card game with a traditional deck of cards you would like thanks to Deck of Cards. You can deal your own cards and play multi-player. From “Crazy 8’s” to “President and Janitor” to “Blackjack” and more, you can play virtually (and this time, it’s harder to cheat).

3. Take quizzes with each other

There’s no better way to learn more about your partner than learning about them through online quizzes. Let the internet do the testing for you. Find out about what your partner knows, doesn’t know, their personality type, favorite foods, and more!

4. Attend a virtual fitness class together

The City of Edmonton is offering virtual fitness classes. Take your pick from type of class or day of the week — remember Valentine’s day falls on a Sunday this year.

5. Go on a virtual museum tour

The Royal Alberta Museum is offering virtual tours and events. Explore the virtual hallways with your partner and be fascinated by the amazing art and history in the largest museum in Western Canada.

6. Order each other take out

Just because you can’t (or don’t want to) go to a restaurant doesn’t mean you can’t break bread in a meaningful way. Order take out for your partner by ordering it to their address and surprise them with the meal! To stay on the safe side, have some ground rules but what are go’s and no go’s (an allergic reaction would definitely kill the vibe!).

7. Try a double date

Partner up with another couple or a few friends and participate in some fun group games. Jackbox.TV has fun and interactive games for the group!

8. Learn a language together

Duolingo is a fun and free way to learn another language. Learn together and see who will be the first to master some key phrases. Also, have fun laughing at the mispronunciation of words!

9. Become mixologists

Grab a drink recipe — cocktail or mocktail — from the internet that you both have been dying to try and channel your inner bartender. No matter if you prefer your drinks shaken, or stirred, you and your partner will have a good time!

10. Put together a funny PowerPoint

Before your date, send each other presentation topics for laughs. Topics could include ‘my biggest fails’, ‘a critical review of my favorite show’, ‘my family’, or ‘things I can’t stand’. It’s important to keep this one lighthearted and fun.

11. Try-not-to-laugh challenges

Tiktok, home videos, vine, fails, and sooo much more. Watch some try-not-to-laugh compilation videos on YouTube and do your best to not crack that smile your partner loves to see.

12. Make a playlist for each other

Show your partner what your music interests are. Get their reaction. Will they fall in love with the playlist you made? Only time will tell when you end up playing it for them.

13. Go virtual house hunting

Bring HGTV to your Valentine’s day this year! Most realtor websites have virtual tours of the largest and most luxurious homes in major cities all over Canada so have fun with your partner by showing each other the houses of your dreams!

14. Do a scavenger hunt race

The idea of the game here is to describe something in a couple of ways (ex. purple and fabric), and you both run and find an object that matches the description and get back to your computer/phone before your partner does. Write a bunch of descriptors down, put them into a hat and pull one or two out every turn.

15. Play some classic games

The classic games of ‘21 Questions’, ‘Truth or Dare’, and ‘Would You Rather’, are classic for a reason. Whether you have already played these games a million times or never before, don’t be afraid to get creative.

16. Plan your next date

It may be difficult to think of a world post-Covid restrictions, but it might be fun to talk about and plan what you would like to when you are able to safely see each other in person, and go to more places again.

If you’re spending this Valentine’s day apart, you can still make it special by trying out some of these activities! We hope you have fun and safely implement some of the quarindate ideas!
