The Design Museum can be found in Kensington, London. The 28 year old museum displays work that covers multiple design disciplines including product, industrial, graphic, fashion and architectural design.

There were many exhibitions on show during the time, one we spent a some time viewing the: The Beazley Designs of the Year exhibition. The pieces in the exhibition were displaying represented great innovation in design over the past year. Some of the work included renewable materials with an overall running theme of what seemed to be a way that designers are helping shape the planet, whether it be through using renewable materials, recyclables or building better buildings that can take advantage of natural resources.

Tesla Model 3

There were 70 projects to view, these pieces included architecture, fashion design, graphic design, product design and more. The hall for this particular exhibition was split up into multiple sections with work from different themes, these included Self, Unite, Place, Renew and Start. I took a keen interest in the Renew section which boasted an Adidas x Parley collaboration, Tesla Model 3 and the VIA 57 West. The renew projects displayed the work of companies/individuals that are currently tackling real world problems through smart and innovative design.

An example of innovative design and creation is Elon Musk’s Tesla. The Tesla Model 3. Tesla’s made it their aim to be the leading brand that takes us forward in the electric car world. The Model 3 is a luxury electric car which will be sold to the general public at an ‘affordable price’. With over 400,000 buyers on the waiting list, the work of Tesla alone has shown that we, the public are taking more interest in doing what’s best for the future environment.

Adidas x Parley running shoe collaboration

One of the pieces that caught my attention was the Adidas x Parley Running shoe collaboration. Adidas worked with Parley to create high performance sportswear from plastics found polluting oceans. The plastic materials were on display alongside the video of how the shoe was created. The use of this helps the viewers get a greater understanding on the importance of having such brands collaborate to raise awareness on the impact of human waste.
