Happy Data Privacy Week! We believe that everyone should understand how apps like Uber collect and use their personal data. But we also know it’s not easy to keep track of your preferences across your favorite apps.

So in honor of Data Privacy Week, here are 5 tips for understanding and controlling how Uber uses your data via our in-app privacy tools. Plus, we just launched a new privacy product for Eaters in the US and Canada today! If you’re an Eater, you can learn what personal information your delivery person sees about you.

1. Check out your Uber Privacy Center

Our Privacy Center is home to your privacy settings and includes features that explain how your personal data is used and shared when you use Uber.

Visit the Privacy Center at https://privacy.uber.com/privacy/center or in the Uber or Uber Eats app, where you can go to Account > Settings > Privacy > Privacy Center. For Drivers, go to Menu > Account > Security and Privacy > Privacy Center.

2. [For Riders in US and Canada] Learn what your driver sees about you

Did you know that Uber removes address information from the driver’s app after your trip ends to help protect your privacy? We also never show the driver your last name, phone number, or the rating you give them!

Learn more about what drivers can see about you in the Uber App via Account > Trips and clicking on any past trip > View what your driver sees or you can visit https://privacy.uber.com/privacy/viewwhatdriversees.

3. New! [For Eaters in US and Canada] Learn what your delivery person sees about you

Did you know that Uber removes address information from the delivery person’s app after Uber Eats orders are completed? Delivery people never see your last name, phone number, or payment methods, and for alcohol deliveries, delivery people cannot view your ID information post-delivery.

Learn more about what delivery people can see about you in the Uber Eats app via Account > Privacy > Privacy Center > What can delivery people see about customers or https://privacy.uber.com/viewasdeliveryperson.

4. Manage the data you share with third parties

Uber works with third party partners to provide you access to a diverse selection of products and experiences. For example, third party partners fulfill Uber Eats prescription deliveries, discounts and benefits for our drivers, etc. When you use these services, you are requested to provide these third parties access to your Uber account.

To see the third parties you’ve accessed via Uber, and the data they receive, go to the Uber, Uber Eats or Driver app > Account > Settings > Privacy > Privacy Center > Third Party App Access.

5. Control whether your data is used for personalized Offers and Promotions

Uber sends you offers and promotions tailored for you based on your location, trips, orders and app usage history.

If you don’t want your data being used to send personalized offers and promotions, go to the Uber, Uber Eats or Driver app > Account > Settings > Privacy Settings > Privacy Center > Offers and Promos from Uber.

We hope these tips help you understand how Uber uses your data, and your choices regarding your data.. Please let us know if you have any feedback, and keep a look out for more exciting privacy features!
