Late last year, Uber announced the establishment of the Uber Safety Advisory Board along with the inaugural board members. Made up of an impressive group of experts, this independent advisory board provides critical recommendations and counsel as Uber develops methods and technologies that reduce risk and increase safety for riders, drivers, and the public.

As we continue to innovate and grow, we depend on the advice of this board to help guide our creativity and give us insights into their fields of expertise — ranging from women’s safety to law enforcement.

Which is why we are thrilled to add Mark Sullivan, former United States Secret Service Director (USSS), to our Safety Advisory Board here at Uber.

For 35 years, Mr. Sullivan served in many capacities as a Federal Law Enforcement Agent where he led high impact initiatives in criminal investigations and protective operations, threat assessment and risk management. Following his 7 year tenure as Director of the USSS, Mr. Sullivan Co Founded Global Security and Innovative Strategies, Washington, DC. In 2014 Mr. Sullivan chaired a panel of security experts, convened by the U.S. Department of State, which was charged with identifying best security practices when operating in high threat areas.

His unmatched experience will undoubtedly add an educated and new perspective to our Safety Advisory Board. Upon the announcement of his retirement from the Secret Service, President Obama remarked, “Mark has led the agency with incredible dedication and integrity,” and we’re proud he’s bringing that stature to Uber.

Safety Advisory Board Members:

  • John Barton, Former Executive Director at the Texas Department of Transportation
  • Ed Davis, former Boston Police Commissioner
  • Jessica Eaglin, Indiana University Bloomington, Maurer School of Law
  • Margaret Richardson, Counsel at Covington Burling and former Chief of Staff to Former Attorney General Eric Holder
  • Cindy Southworth, Executive Vice President, National Network to End Domestic Violence, Founder of the Safety Net Technology Project and Board Member of the Global Network of Women’s Shelters
