Every day thousands of people across the Middle East and Africa use the Uber app to access earning opportunities that fit their lives. Technology has the power to create the opportunity for people with diverse backgrounds and aspirations to move up the economic ladder.

Across the Middle East and Africa, people have primarily made a living through some form of independent work. Among the challenges of the independent work model is that contractors often do not have access to the same social protections enjoyed by those in more traditional models of employment.

Uber can empower people to access quality, independent economic opportunities. At a basic level, everyone should have the option to protect themselves and their loved ones against rare and unforeseen work accidents that prevent them from earning a living.

Today, we are excited to announce that Uber is bringing Partner Injury Protection insurance that will cover driver partners and delivery partners if they are involved in an accident or sustain an injury while on-trip using the Uber app in select countries in the Middle East and Africa to start. This follows a similar roll out in other regions as part of Uber’s global commitment to safety and security for all users.

This product covers all partners in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt and South Africa for the financial cost of injury, including emergency medical treatment and lost earning opportunities, if you’re in an accident while on a trip or delivery. Uber is proud to partner with AXA and Chubb, some of the world’s most trusted insurers, and this programme will be funded by Uber at no cost to drivers and delivery partners.

Partner Injury Protection is an important step in supporting the economic security of the people who use the Uber app. But the listening doesn’t stop here, We’ll continue to ensure that the voices of the driver partners and delivery partners are heard as we take Uber forward together.
