The Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington, DC brings together one of the largest gatherings of transportation professionals in the world. The Uber Policy Research team is excited to be a part of it. We are a team of researchers and data scientists dedicated to understanding Uber’s role in the overall urban mobility landscape.

Yesterday, we helped launch Uber Movement, a website that uses Uber’s data to help urban planners make informed decisions about our cities. If you’re interested in hearing more about Movement, please come to our reception Monday afternoon at 1776.

We’re also here to find and meet with the best researchers in the world and discuss topics of mutual interest. Over the last year, we’ve looked at the expansion of Uber’s service to lower density suburbs to better understand whether the availability of Uber’s service there complements public transportation. We’ve begun to investigate how Uber is providing convenient transportation outside major metropolitan areas, including in smaller towns and cities like Amherst, Massachusetts.

We’ve also evaluated the impact of adding new transit service during Uber’s busiest hours in London. You may be surprised to learn that trip volumes went up — just one of the many interesting ways that Uber and transit are being used together.

Finally, we recently dove into parking data to understand how we can help start the transition to a world where cities need much less of it. You can read about it here.

That’s just a sample of the topics we’re looking into. Interested in getting in touch? Please reach out at research@uber.com. Want to follow along as we share our work? Check out our blog for more updates.

Thanks,
