Presenting ideas, projects and some wishful thinking from the D-team at Urban Company.

1. Designing for Trust

You fire up the UC app, book a relaxing Spa therapy, next you think, Who will be coming to my home?, Can I trust the professional? To tell you the truth, we have been there, too. The professional picture is no good. How many can raise hands and say we look exactly like the photos on our driving license?

This idea aimed to solve for your comfort, to confide that the professional at your door is the person mentioned in the app. We verify the location, the device and the face of the UC Professional as soon as he/she arrives at your location.

Aptly so, it was named the AI Gatekeeper. We proposed this to be an AI-powered, real-time face recognition feature back in February 2020. It was then designed, shipped and had amazing results with 99% accuracy.

Team — Vaibhav Vishal, Gunjan Jha

2. IoT for UC Professionals

This second project had us solving for how to make the service-delivery experience friction-free for UC Professionals. We observed that having a mobile interface can actually be a very distracting experience for our professionals from our field trips. So we proposed having a different device, like an ID card that they could easily carry in the pocket or wear like an ID badge.

To give better real-time job value to professionals, we brainstormed having a calorie count monitor in this device that could tell us if the partner is tired and, therefore, match it with a low-intensity job.

The application of IoT devices is not limited to job delivery. Beauty services too can benefit from the technology that analyses the skin and suggests services.

3. Re-imagining UC Brand

This beautiful concept brought to life by Ankur sought to unify the brand across marketing and product. Back in 2020, UC had just changed its name from UrbanClap to Urban Company, and we were evaluating how the brand stands, what needs to change, et al. This was our take — Unfolding the Possibilities.

4. Project Dhwani

A concept to empower partners with voice navigation. This was geared towards making the interaction between app and professionals more direct, hands-free and intelligent. We partnered with 2 awesome engineers, Vaibhav and Nitesh, who made the idea real for the prototype.

We’ll be working on this project further, beginning with voice narration on the Help Center.
