…to our swanky new quarters in Gurgaon (May 2015)

It seems to us that there exist no limits to the world of possibilities out there and definitely in here as well. Just as we were about to think of a new skill addition requirement on the UrbanClap jobs page — Acrobatic Skills, we shifted office.

Like Sam Ewing said “Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all.”

Our problem is that our entire 39 strong team is so enthusiastic that they all turned up and as our team grows, new ones show up as well.

While we say it’s a problem, it’s really a sense of belonging you feel when you see some team members are hunched over the laptops while sitting on the floor, some find a place to sit on the stairs outside the office (and in this heat to boot), some discover a cozy corner near the doorway, blocking everyone else’s path and a few put their young joints to the test in a down on two knees position in front of their desks. Startup quick tip#1, office attire in a startup needs to be extra casual to tackle the dust in odd places.

When you see one software engineer who left his job to join our family to sit in the rather dark and may we add shady corner on an uncomfortable bench to work furiously away making several adjustments, add-ons and what not, you know you’ve made the right call. When you chance upon the Business Development Associate who left her cushy job to work incessantly trying to make our up-coming event on Sunday the 10th for service professionals a hit — you know you have found a kindred soul.

You never know how the best codes get written!

While the societal ideas of personal boundaries are blurred when you sit that close to someone when limbs are to be mistook for your own, you know this fellow has got your back and vice versa and you both are working towards something that matters — to solving a bigger problem, ie, service marketplace in India. The office lunch is not a time to open your tiffin boxes, it’s a time to eat what’s next to you. Startup quick tip#2, keep an extra pack of whatever you bring to the office, small spaces merely translate to — sharing is caring.

When the tough get going…they work from the floor!

So we bid adieu to phase 2 and move to our swanky new quarters in Gurgaon. While these cramped quarters are to be missed our expanding company all needed a new place and this was just the right one . Startup quick tip#3, it’s all worth it in the end — oh, no — this is just the beginning for us.
