Applications are invited for a five-year post of a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Digital Policy within UCD School of Information and Communication Studies.

With generous support from Microsoft Ireland, UCD is establishing the Microsoft-UCD Digital Policy Programme to be hosted at UCD with the goal of building a digital policy capability in Ireland and Europe. The programme aims to fulfil the demand for digital policy knowledge and skills in the policy ecosystem, including the public service in Ireland and the wider European Union, with features that will fill this need in the short term, while also building a sustainable pipeline of skills for long-term impact. It will build on existing expertise and curriculum already offered at UCD, while also recruiting fresh talent to develop the programme of activities and contribute centrally to its success.

In support of the Microsoft-UCD Digital Policy Programme UCD seeks to recruit a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the interdisciplinary field of Digital Policy. The post is temporary and the successful candidate will be appointed on a five-year basis. UCD would welcome applicants who may seek a secondment from their current employer to UCD. Candidates with interest and experience in research and education in the interdisciplinary field of Digital Policy are welcomed from across any of the main disciplines which bear on the field. The successful candidate will be appointed to UCD School of Information and Communication Studies with an expectation of linkages to other schools in the University as appropriate to the disciplinary background, experience and research programme of the appointee. Current areas of research in College of Social Sciences and Law and the wider university related to digital policy include: transparency in electoral processes, trust and expertise, data privacy, hate speech, democratization and constitutionalization of online practices, data practices, digital and data journalism, digital media studies, blockchain, cyber-security, information literacy, algorithmic accountability, information and data ethics.
