Home isn’t always a safe space during COVID-19 pandemic
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Center for Disease and Control (CDC) advised everyone to stay home, away from crowds, and promote social distancing. But for some, home may be more dangerous than it is safe.
Every year, nearly 10 million people are impacted by sexual assault and physical abuse by an intimate partner.
“Because of this situation — the quarantining and social distancing and isolation that is occurring because of the COVID-19 — it can certainly allow abusers to have more tactics they can use to maintain their control” — Ruth Glen
UCI CARE is committed to supporting students and staff who are currently being quarantined at home with an abuser and need to create a safety plan.
