This is a truly unprecedented time for everyone and as a student, I know how difficult it has been for the entire UCI community. This time has made a lot of us feel really isolated from the campus community. It is difficult to stay motivated and focused with everything going on and school being moved to a remote format. One of the biggest concerns is that a lot of the resources that were once accessible to us aren’t anymore because no one is on campus. After reaching out to many campus departments, the CARE Office has compiled a list of resources that are still available:

  • Transfer Student Hub holds weekly workshops by theme (listed on their website) on Zoom from 1–2 PM. On even-numbered weeks, they are on Thursday and for odd-numbered weeks, they take place on Tuesday.
  • Writing Center has Zoom appointments available for help from professional staff and peer tutors. Email consultations are also available when you sign up through this link, they typically respond in 3–3 days depending on how busy they are.
  • Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC)’s resources are all available, they have just been moved to an online format. For those of you who do not know what it is, it is essentially a weekly tutoring session that you sign up and pays to help you manage one of your difficult classes. They have all available LARC sessions for classes listed here
  • FreshHub’s food pantry is open and available to students on Thursdays (12–4 PM) and Fridays (9 AM-12 PM) on odd-numbered weeks. Sign up is required since space is limited and sign up form is made available every Tuesday of the week at 3 PM. Food stamps for the Irvine area are available, but they can assist to get food stamps in your area. They also have a social worker named Peter Thach that has $50 electronic Target gift cards for students with basic needs.
  • Wellness, Health, and Counseling Services: Peter Thach, the basic needs campus social worker is holding Zoom consultations to discuss campus resources. He also works with the Financial Aid office to review applications for grants for housing, food, and/or medical needs.
  • Office of Academic Integrity & Student Conduct’s Instagram is @uci_oaisc where you can see information from their Virtual Integrity week. Dean’s Certification is the available information on what students need to transfer, apply to graduate school, or study abroad in the future. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is a policy that students should familiarize themselves with, especially now with a possible spike in VPN violations and overall academic dishonesty due to the online format.
  • Student Success Initiatives have workshops held on Zoom on even-numbered weeks from 1–2 PM, and 1:1 appointments can be scheduled with SSI counselors here.
  • Beall Applied Innovation’s website is updated with all upcoming events, webinars, and workshops.
  • Center for Student Health & Wellness Promotion (CSHWP) has all staff members available to schedule a 1:1 Zoom consultation during regular hours (M-F 8 AM-5 PM), and Mediation Mondays are done on Instagram live. They also hold weekly Alcohol Awareness Class offered on Zoom (contact Daniela Santoro dsantoro@uci.edu for more information). Lastly, their nutritionist is offering free-tele-nutrition consultations and is in the works of 3 workshops (more information to come).
  • Undeclared/Undergraduate Advising, if you have questions, you can call (949)824–6987 on M-F from 9–11:30 AM. You can call on M-F from 12:30–4 to make appointments to meet with a peer advisor or academic consultant.
  • Scholarship Opportunities Program has drop-in hours that will be held through Zoom every week except finals week, availability and information are listed here.

  • ASUCI — Statewide Organizing Coordinator/COVId-19 Emergency Response Committee is creating a tab on the ASUCI website for updates on student resources and is supporting students that are struggling with concerns about food, housing, and overall well being. She is available for Zoom meetings and can be contacted at jgotte@uci.edu
