UDisc Update: Course Pars and Hole Names
Today, we’re happy to announce a major upgrade to pars in UDisc. When viewing or playing a new course, each hole will have the proper par already filled in for you.
UDisc has been helping you score and track your disc golf rounds since 2012. Previously, we used a personal par system where you had to set the pars for each course while playing a round. This was a lot easier for us to maintain, but required more work for everyone playing.
To set course pars, we used the most common personal pars set for each hole. As of today, we have pars for 100,000+ disc golf holes all over the world. Having the pars in UDisc along with the hole maps and distances makes navigating and playing on new courses a breeze.
While playing a round you can quickly adjust the par for your round by tapping the par value in the header. This will change the par for your scorecard, and the next time you play the course you can choose to use the course pars or your personal pars.
If you find that UDisc has a wrong Course Par for a layout, you can submit a par update for the course directory. Find the course using the Courses tab, tap the Edit button on top, and choose Update Layouts.
Pars should not be arbitrary — if the course has signage that defines par for that hole, that’s what should be in UDisc. If you want to play a specific hole differently, use your own pars as directed above (tap on the par to change it while keeping score).
If you prefer to use your own pars for everything (default every hole to par 3) you can turn off “Use Course Pars” on the Settings page on the More tab.
Custom Hole Names
As you may have noticed in the screenshot above, this update also adds support for renaming holes. If your layout uses non-standard numbering (8A, 8B, 9, 9B, etc.) this is the update you’ve been waiting for. Hole names can be set with the layout, which will be shared with everyone who plays that layout — Dellwood disc golfers, rejoice!
We’re excited to finally have a way to share a more complete picture of a layout and help you find good courses to play. Now that course pars are shared, UDisc can easily be used to “scout” courses before you show up — just find the course on the Courses tab, and scroll down to where the course layouts are listed, or view the course map, which will now show the pars as well.
