#UDLchat: Making Choices
Providing options is at the heart of the UDL Guidelines. But simply providing choices to our learners is not enough. How do we guide our learners in making good learning choices for themselves and for the task at hand? How can we, as educators and instructors, optimize the choices we offer to support our learning goals and the goal of Universal Design for Learning: to become expert learners?
These questions guided our discussion:
- Q1: When providing instructional options for learners, what strategies do you use to teach/coach learners about making effective choices?
- Q2: How do you support learners when they struggle with choice?
- Q3: How do you teach self-reflection (strategies) and facilitate the connection to self-directed learning?
- Q4: How do you know when the options you offer are good choices for students?
