As my career in the (Japanese) game industry continues, I finally get to take a more active role in the release of a title that my studio, Good Luck 3, has released. ’Tis my job to get upon the soapbox and promote our new title to overseas markets, make new connections, and have fun along the way (been quite the ride thus far).

(steps up) *Ehm. As of this week, “Crypt-Oink”, Japan’s first game utilizing Blockchain technology is fully released and awaits you!

For those of you interested in dApps, cryptocurrencies and/or Blockchain, or games in general, read on as this may peak your interest:

(Those who know nothing about Crypto will find this hard to digest so for a 30second explanation of what Blockchain is, skip to “n00b section” and hop back after.)

Enter Crypt-oink.

Utilizing the Ethereum blockchain, we have created over 3.6 trillion ERC-721 tokens and used their essence to birth what we call Crypton.

Yes you heard me right, over 3.6 trillion and thus no two are alike. These supperr cute (“Kawaii” in Japanese) mysterious piggies exist on the Ethereum network and can be yours.

This one’s mine though. Not gonna lie, I’m kinda in love with it.

The “game” aspect is similar to that of baseball cards: collect the ones you like by purchasing them in the Marketplace via Ethereum (ETH), or purchase from the UserShop where other users have listed what they think are too cute, super valuable Crypton at a certain price. You’re free to do the same, perhaps you can turn a profit?

But wait, it gets more interesting!

Crypton themselves are without gender but can Breed. By choosing a “Mother” and “Father” (Mother-Mother or Father-Father for that matter..), you can bring new Crypton into existence. Genetics is a wild concept as it is, so I needn’t go into much details when I say, “results may vary”, but that’s half the fun!

You can play now via PC or Mobile web-browser, but you’ll need ETH and a browser with a wallet that holds Ethereum; plugins like MetaMask and apps like Trust or Toshi, have proven to work well. Here you can find more detailed instructions: https://www.crypt-oink.io/webapp?lang=en#help_faq_1_0

Crypt-oink is already doing well here in Japan and we’ve fully localized our game so that players overseas can enjoy as well. Come find your ideal Crypton now!

More on Blockchain games:

Blockchain games are a new extension of the technology itself. Albeit such games are yet quite fully immersive and interactive as we’ve become accustomed to, the blockchain provides the next frontier of in-game currency. Thus the singularity between games and blockchain is going to be really exciting as it’ll make games more “real” to players (money-wise anyway): Your actions and choices made in a virtual world will be tied to virtual currencies, those virtual currencies (ETH, BTC etc..) are quickly becoming universally accepted allowing you to enjoy other entertainment and basically leverage reality itself. That’s where it’s all going. For a bit anyway, I think.

There’s something to be said about Games & Japan, the country is sort of a mecca for the industry. Additionally the whole #MadeinJapan image is pretty cool. So our studio is throwing our hat in the ring in these new realm and dishing out something cute for both you and us to call our own.

n00b section: A quick intro to try and help you out

Instead of transactions being centrally controlled by bank institutions, blockchain technology decentralizes the verification process of a transaction, keeping it completely digitally open and public. Furthermore the verification process is done by computers solving suppperr complex computational puzzles for a single transaction. Looking at this from a broader view, the blockchain becomes unalterable, and thus unhackable without a gargantuan amount of processing power.

(Make sense? If not comment and i’ll try to field such questions)

Anywho, this new wave or digital commerce is taking the world by storm. Just check the value of tokens such as Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH). Our studio is specifically working atop the Ethereum blockchain.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading to the end :)
