Ueno goes to LA

Our first office was in Reykjavik, Iceland. It wasn’t much of an office, we rented a couple of desks and crammed ourselves into a little room somewhere in a massive building.

About a year later we moved into a beautiful space that had views of the city that I, a native, had never seen. We quickly made it our own and it became the standard for how we want our offices to look and feel.

Around the same time we opened up shop in San Francisco. This was early 2015 and we had been doing some work for the fine people that made the platform I’m writing on now, Medium. I asked their founder, Ev, if he had some extra space and it turned out they did.

We stayed there for about a year until we were finally big enough to get our own space. So we took over a floor in a building in Soma and got to work making it our own. It turned out pretty great —walking into that space in the morning always makes me happy.

When we decided to open a NYC office we again started small. We hired someone amazing to set us up and she didn’t disappoint. She found us a place with some very nice people and that’s how we started. They let us grow slowly over time until we decided we needed to find our own space. We looked for a long time and finally settled on a place that we felt we could make our home for the next few years. And again, we got to work and made a space that feels just right to us.

Now we’re ready for the next move and we decided that Los Angeles was the natural place for us to open up a new Ueno office. LA is quickly becoming a tech hub, with the entertainment industry driving the way and others following suit to build up what is becoming known as Silicon Beach.

And again, we’re starting small. We’re renting space in El Segundo from some very nice people that are building a mini community of creative companies.

The common area.

And just as in New York, we only wanted to make one hire to begin with. A local that we could help establish Ueno in Los Angeles.

We looked around and after some digging we stumbled upon just the right guy. His name is Justin Greene and in the few weeks since he joined he’s already proven his value many times over.

Justin even speaks Caktus.

So, there you go. This is the start of Ueno LA. Like every journey, this one begins with one step. And then another. And so on.

Now that the doors are open we’re hoping to find some local work. So, if you know of someone in LA that needs help and you think we could be the right partner, we’d love to chat.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Halli
