Uhive and Free Speech; What’s the Solution?
On Uhive, users are given the power to curate the content that appears on their Uhive feed.
Due to an overwhelming number of people asking us the same question regarding the shutting down of Parler, and how Uhive plans to tackle free speech without, as a consequence, creating an ecology of global hate, harassment or bullying, we’ve decided to give some insight into how we’re going to tackle this.
Our users have always been at the crux of every decision Uhive has made, while our goal has always been to give the ‘power back to the people’. The matter of free speech is no different. There is no real evidence that censorship works. By censoring content on Uhive, we’re simply driving that content into more hidden communities, where something like hate can flourish.
It’s for users themselves to decide whether or not ignoring it, engaging with the original post, or completely blocking it from their Uhive experience is the way forward
It goes without saying, any content that goes against our guidelines will be removed from the app, but that which ‘tows-the-line’ and is coming under increased scrutiny, will remain in place. It’s for users themselves to decide whether or not ignoring it, engaging with the original post, or completely blocking it from their Uhive experience is the way forward. No advertisers, shareholders, politically-affiliated groups, will ever control what content a user on Uhive will see, or not see. And to build on top of this, users will also be able to set content filters that they can configure to block 100%, or varying degrees, of content they wish to avoid. This proprietary technology is 95% accurate and will be launched very soon.
Uhive has also built a one-of-a-kind crowd-sourced content moderation system, that will give a portion of Uhivers who have achieved specific milestones, like a social scale above 900, and minimal reports against their posts — special privileges to remove content that violates our guidelines. If we were to give an example of this, Wikipedia’s content governance model would be the best the closest one.
We have too many launches and updates this year to announce them all in one post, but regarding free speech, governance and censorship, as well as an individual’s right to choose — we hope we’ve shed some light on these topics for those who are interested.
