What is Ui/UX — part 1
A fairly common word amongst the web designers / developers is Ui/UX. What exactly is Ui/UX? Or, what is the difference between Ui/UX? And, if it is totally irrelevant, why is it that Ui/UX is always used together? These are some of the common questions asked or thought about by most of the commoners.
Lets try to understand some of the fundamental differences of them here and also try to see why it is always better to use them together.
In its most raw, basic meaning — Ui stands for User Interface. UX for User eXperience. This sounds very similar to non-familiar person or group. To understand the basic difference, Ui is the looks/front. UX is the functionality behind any system. It is not only relevant to website but equally relevant to mobile apps, games, shopfronts, stores, malls, or anything that is a ‘medium’ (that’s right.. extra brownie points for promoting medium on medium! :p) for a business to connect with their end-users.
One of the common myth is Ui/UX is something to do with how website looks and functions. But overall, Ui/UX is equally important and practised through-out the world, across all kinds of businesses — no matter how small or how big.
If you are a business owner, you have already implemented some sort of Ui/UX reformation in your line of business without even knowing what it is. Ui/UX is not something invention of this century. It has been here ever since human being started thinking on how to make it more easier / more simpler / more value for money for the end-user.
Example of Ui/UX in its broader term would be — by the end of 20th century, we had fairly mastered the art of automobiles. Everything invented, discovered was already done and there should have been no extra inventions required for further enhancements in the world of automobiles. However, think about how much R&D is being carried by various brands — no matter how big or small-in this industry and day by day more and more technologies are being made easily available for us, i.e. the end-user.
To be continued..
We will talk more about detailed Ui/UX in next part
