Our world is a beautiful place, but it can also be a confusing and scary place. All it takes is a doom scroll on Instagram or a scary news report on TV to turn a blissful day into a day full of fear and doubt.

It’s difficult to come to terms with the uncomfortable negativity and pain that our fellow human beings, animals, and ourselves experience. For the unusually empathetic individual, this injustice can even be almost unbearable.

We need to take a breath and reconnect with our souls.

A pause can help us find that grounding place of strength that allows us to leave positive marks on the world. Working on creative projects helps me to find that place even when it seems to be lost for good.

The following are some great eco-friendly projects to start with, even for those who don’t feel that they have any natural artistic skill. I hope they help readers heal and inspire them to make the world a better place in their own ways.

As a side note: I am going to mostly suggest digital projects in this piece, as I don’t want to encourage paper waste. However, repurposing items around the house or thrifting for your projects can also be great ways to get creative while helping the environment.

Scrapbooking

It can be relaxing to make a few photo collages that help us reflect on our lives, even if we are mainly focusing on the positive highlights. It’s easy for everyone from newbies to experts to create an online scrapbook through various photo project websites — and without increasing clutter or encouraging paper waste. Sometimes, focusing on the good in your life can help you assess where you are, how the world currently is, and what you can do to make life better.

Coloring

Adult coloring has become quite popular over the past couple of decades — and for good reason. Coloring is a great stress reliever. It can create a calming sense of accomplishment and a greater appreciation for the beauty of art, even if you’ve never picked up a colored pencil or a paintbrush in your life.

A smartphone app with digital coloring pages allows budding artists to benefit from the soothing energy of color. Coloring is a mindful and meditative practice that allows us to quiet our minds and focus on the positive power within each of us. Listen to some music as you color for added bliss and inspiration. That’s what I usually do!

Poetry

Sitting down with our phones, tablets, or computers and writing out our thoughts can allow us to create some beautiful or enlightening prose, regardless of innate talent. The idea is to learn some new things about ourselves, rather than focusing on being the best writers to ever put pen to paper — or fingers to keyboard, in this case. Writing can also help us make sense of the sometimes-confusing world around us in a healing way.

Singing Karaoke

Karaoke isn’t just for bars anymore. There are many karaoke applications and games for singers of all skill levels to enjoy. Music is a gift to the world that I believe anyone can enjoy — not just artists with natural talent. Singing is a healing, mindful activity that resonates with something deep inside of us — a place of healing and light. Just avoid singing songs that create more negative energy!

If these activities still don’t feel like a great fit, there are other ways to boost your creativity and work toward healing at the same time. As long as we pursue activities that inspire us and spur us to make the world a better place in some way, we are on the right track.
